Bear Rank Advancement

Bear is the rank for scouts who have completed the second grade or are 9 years old.

Below is an overview of the requirements for scouts to earn the Bear rank. For more specific information, please refer to the scout handbook or scoutbook.com.

Required Adventures

Scouts must earn all of the required adventures below to earn the Wolf rank.

Bear Claws

While working on this adventure scouts will learn knife safety.

Bear Necessities

While working on this adventure scouts will develop their basic outdoor skills.

Fellowship and Duty to God

While working on this adventure scouts will learn the importance of the golden rule: treating others the way we want to be treated.

Fur, Feathers, and Ferns

While working on this adventure scouts will explore the outdoor world of mammals, birds, plants, and more as they learn about the importance of nature conservation.

Paws for Action: Duty to Country

While working on this adventure scouts will learn about patriotism and loyalty to our country.

Baloo the Builder

While working on this adventure scouts will learn the safe and proper use of hand tools as they construct an item out of wood.

Elective Adventures

Scouts must complete at least one of the elective requirements below to earn the Bear rank.

A Bear Goes Fishing

While working on this adventure scouts will learn about the rules and equipment of fishing as they go on a fishing adventure.

A World of Sound

While working on this adventure scouts will learn about musical instruments from around the world.

Bear Picnic Basket

While working on this adventure scouts will be introduced to the fun of preparing their own meals and snacks.

Beat of the Drum

While working on this adventure scouts will learn about another culture and how it might relate to them.

Critter Care

While working on this adventure scouts will learn how caring for a pet fosters responsibility and offers companionship.

Forensics

While working on this adventure scouts will learn about being observant, looking for clues, and solving situations with those clues.

Grin and Bear It

While working on this adventure scouts will learn the value of helping other people have fun.

Make it Move

While working on this adventure scouts will learn about action and reaction.

Marble Madness

While working on this adventure scouts will experience individual competition and teamwork, helping other, learning rules, and being a good sport.

Roaring Laughter

While working on this adventure scouts will share laughter with others, strengthening their bond with family members and the den.

Robotics

While working on this adventure scouts will learn how different types of robots are used and create their own simple robotic figures.

Salmon Run

While working on this adventure scouts will learn about aquatic safety.

Super Science

While working on this adventure scouts will investigate static electricity, oil and water, sinking versus floating, and color morphing and layering.
